Panthera tigris tigris, Bengal tiger.
The white tiger is a recessive mutant of the Bengal tiger.
White tigers tend to be somewaht bigger than normal Bengal tigers.
Around one in 15,000 wild Bengal tigers births will result in a white tiger.

Yeah...they're so pretty. Sad truth is that they're all inbred from one common ancestor, and sometimes it produces white tigers who have genetic diseases like Down's. Those are put down....

Sometimes when two white tigers produce an orange one, the keepers kill it.

It's a shame people are allowed to breed these white tigers, most inbred white tigers suffer from a variety of diseases.
All this is done to earn money!

Yeah. They're lovely in the wild, but in horrible pain if bred in captivity

There's a site somewhere that talks about all the breeds between, and I think a white tiger named Rama is the sole genetic link between all white tigers. They're bred to their mothers, daughters, sons, and fathers...while in the wild you have more genetic diversity.

*Hugs* The world is changing, though. People are losing licenses to keep and breed tigers, all over the world...so we have hope.

[link] Big Cat Rescue's expose is sad but interesting to read; if you hear about a white tiger breed called "Royal White Bengal", they're just another inbred white tiger.
